SBNA Annual Meeting Minutes

March 10, 2003, 6:30 p.m.


Diane Reinhardt, Traffic Engineer, City of Columbia Public Works Department, reviewed the temporary traffic devices on Audubon Road and at the intersection of Shepard Boulevard.  She presented some other options, took questions, and heard comments from the audience of about 25.  Sixth Ward City Counsilperson, John Coffman, was also present for this session and gave some input.  No decisions were made, but comment sheets will be mailed to all attendees at this session, and possibly to all residences in the neighborhood.

Election of Officers

After general discussion of the slate of officers printed on the flyers, the following people were voted in:
Chair:    Dan Jordan
Vice Chair:  Jim Muench
Secretary:  (vacant)
Treasurer:  Lou Holroyd
Section A Representative:  Al Lackey/Judith Burke
Section B Representative:  Cokie Blake
Section C Representative:  Dorinda Derow
(the last three in absentia).

Treasurer’s Report

There is $377.79 in the bank.  Voluntary dues of $5 were requested and accepted by Lou Holroyd.

Shepard Boulevard Median

Queen Ann Lake Association members have agreed for the second year to take care of mowing the three sections.  Contact person is Karen Shelton, 442-4810.  Atkins Lawn Care Company has agreed to perform gratis spring and fall weed killing and fertilization.  The first treatment has already been done.  The meeting agreed to donate $50 from the treasury toward gas for grass mowing.

Neighborhood Garage Sale

No date was set, but Richard Harris offered to manage this.

Annual Neighborhood Picnic

The traditional last Thursday in August will be changed this year.  Jim Muench, Chuck Hamm, and Dora Thackery offered to organize this.

Adopt-A-Spot Litter Control, Old 63 Roadside Park

Dan Jordan, Leslye Altermeier, Lou and Helen Holroyd, and Connie Caffrey agreed to take this on.

Dog Signs

It was agreed to take them all down and reconsider the situation in the future.  The one in Shepard Park was totally faded and had already been taken down by the City Parks folks.  The Shepard median ones will be taken down.

Neighborhood Watch Program

Mike Hayes of the Police Department is in charge of this city program, 874-7658 (e-mail address on file).  For Shepard area, Meredith Donaldson and Leslie Ethington are contact persons.

Old/New Business and Neighbors Concerns

It was suggested (Richard Harris) and voted to send a letter of appreciation to John Coffman, our outgoing Sixth Ward Councilman.  Thanks was also expressed to Jane Addison, outgoing chair of the neighborhood association, for her work.

The meeting was adjourned at approximately 8:40 p.m.
